THE REFORMERS
The Hope of Something Better
The Reformers are breathing new life into the iconic poems of Henry Lawson in their multimedia performance called The Hope of Something Better. The show is based on the album of the same name produced by band founder, Don Stewart, and presents the poems as spoken word, songs and videos. The music draws from Australian contemporary Celtic compositions including those of world renowned bagpipe composers Murray Blair and Mark Saul.

“The Hope of Something Better” is the album created by Don Stewart presenting the poems of Henry Lawson as spoken word and songs, supported by Celtic tune compositions by Australian composers. Don said he felt that Lawson’s poems “still had resonance with 21st century Australia” and so he has tried to present the pieces in a contemporary and musically broad way, including touches of electronica and rap sprinkled through the tracks.

“The melding of words and composition, the strident narration, the elegance and dynamism and the contributions of Claire Patti, Pete Denahy and others are a heady folk delight.”
WHO ARE THE REFORMERS ?
The Musicians
The Reformers came together to perform The Hope of Something Better and quickly realised that there was some special musical glue happening. The sound was exciting and new and although they are all experienced musicians who've played in various folk and rock/pop bands, this type of performance was a bit different and brought an exciting energy into the new band.
